synopsis:
It’s the musical that shocked and outraged your grandparents in the 1960’s and had a Tony-winning return to Broadway in 2009. And now, Island ETC (East-End Theatre Company) is pleased to present HAIR – The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical from March 2nd through March 31st.
HAIR follows the adventures of a tribe of hippies during the tumultuous 1960’s as they challenge the mores of the time. HAIR is a timeless portrait of a movement that changed the world and possesses as meaning that outlives the era of ‘flower power.’
HAIR is considered to be one of the most adventurous, outlandish, and ultimately profound musicals in musical theatre history. The groundbreaking rock score of HAIR paved the way for some of the greatest musicals of our time. HAIR features an extraordinary cast and dozens of unforgettable songs, including Aquarius, Let the Sun Shine In, Good Morning, Starshine, and Easy to be Hard.
HAIR opens on Friday, March 2nd with a special fundraising party –“Big Hair Night.” Sponsors for the opening night event include Moody National Bank and the Spa at the San Luis. The evening includes heavy appetizers provided by The Galveston Restaurant Group and an open bar. Other special surprises are in store for the patrons of opening night. If you are interested in attending opening night but have not received an invitation, please call ETC at (409) 762-3556.
Performances continue from March 3rd through March 31st. Performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings at 8:00 and Sunday afternoons March 11th and March 18th at 2:30pm. Although curtain time is 8:00pm (or 2:30pm), this is not a traditional musical, so arriving fifteen minutes earlier will keep you from missing any of the ‘action.’ Tickets to these performances are $27.00 for adults and $22.00 for students and senior citizens (55 and up). Special rates are available for groups of ten or more by calling the theatre. Tickets can be purchased by calling ETC at (409) 762-3556 or toll-free (888) 762-3556.
Please note: In keeping with the spirit of the original show, this production contains mature subject matter, language, and brief nudity. ETC does not recommend our production of HAIR for children.
